Problem is, i can't figure out how the mantle is currently installed.
28+ Mantle Behind Wood Stove. I have built a few, but this one is on a rough surface. The wood stove is not actually in the fireplace, but a few feet in front of it, so the tv is on the stone mantle behind the stove and probably about 3 feet above it.

Most wood stove fires are caused because combustible materials are placed too close to a hot stove. Mine is set up in a corner and the corners of the stove can be placed at 3 and we still haven't done anything about a burn proof mantle, but i painted a board and it's just wide enough to decorate! Attached are a few pics of the fireplace w/ mantle. Mart has a good point about basement, although, not quite the right reasons.
